Cynerge Consulting is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join a talented, tight-knit, and rapidly growing team supporting the U.S. Forest Service! At Cynerge, our work aides the U.S. Forest Service in its mission to manage and preserve our nation’s forests and grasslands. Our solutions have supported a range of teams and personnel, from researchers in the Rockies to the smokejumpers, a highly specialized team of skydiving firefighters, and the app dev and infrastructure teams behind the scenes. We’ve successfully delivered DevSecOps at scale, pioneered the use of automation and CI/CD, and are actively migrating a portfolio of more than 80 applications to more available and accessible cloud environments.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Technical Writer, you will be responsible for planning, researching, outlining, and writing documentation that supports the operations of datacenter services teams. This includes user manuals, technical manuals/documents, directives, policies, and infrastructure documentation. Day to day, sample responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Work with IT groups and Information System Security Officers (ISSOs) to describe and document systems or products that have been developed or are in the process of being developed
  • Work with appropriate staff to update Agency directives, policies, and standards
  • Conduct research by interviewing subject matter experts, reviewing existing documentation and by gleaning information from the system or product being documented
  • Develop an understanding of the requirements for the features being documented, including target audience
  • Develop and update documentation standards, templates, and procedures
  • Create graphics that aid the target audience in understanding the documented material
  • Provide input concerning GUI design and wording of messages
  • Design and write documentation on selected media
  • Ensure all documentation is delivered according to specified guidelines
  • Proofread documents for accuracy and roll up edits into one document
  • Work with technical resources to improve document quality and usability
  • Track and correct documentation defects
  • Follow the documentation project through to completion, including client signoff, production and archival
  • Provide coaching and guidance to junior members

Prerequisites

The ideal candidate for the Senior Technical Writer position will possess the following:

  • 7+ years of experience with business and/or technical writing and editing
  • Prior experience working with technical topics
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills
  • Strong written, presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Able to communicate technical concepts to non-technical personnel
  • Able to work with people of varied technical backgrounds and management levels
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret business requirements, system documentation, and technical procedures
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Able to quickly learn new tools
  • Experience in federal government sector a plus
  • Preferred – HUBZone residency (certified at https://maps.certify.sba.gov/)
  • Required – US Citizen or “green card” holder
