Cynerge is currently seeking an Container Engineer to help make our team more effective. Our ideal candidate will work on building, scaling, and monitoring various highly complex applications of ours, and making our container orchestration cluster highly available.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for directly leading the efforts of our application teams working in the Chief Information Office (CIO) of the US Forest Service.  We have a growing portfolio of applications under our management and have been supporting them for over 15 years. This position will serve as one of our company leads for this portfolio, which requires program management and solution architecture capabilities. This is a hands-on leadership and consulting role, combining both oversight and project work.

 

This position will work with business and technical stakeholders in an agile Development, Security and Operations (DevSecOps) environment toward accomplishment of the goals and objectives of a multi-year IT Strategic Plan and Technical Roadmap.  They will play a key role in multiple stages of the Agency IT solution lifecycle from Ideation through Service Delivery and Operations.

 

The Application Architect will coordinate the efforts of the application teams responsible for building and modernizing a high-profile public-facing application portfolio essential to the field operations of the agency.  The Application Architect will manage the application rationalization of legacy services, facilitate the agile design and development activities of multiple scrum teams, and coordinate project risks and schedule.  This is a high priority, multi-year effort.

 

This position also requires the ability to assist with solution architecture – taking new business requests and determining what can be done to meet the business and field needs.  Research into the potential options, culminating in a path analysis and recommendations, is a regular activity.  You will assist the CIO application teams in defining which technology and direction should be for specific business needs.

 

Day to day, sample responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Develop high-level cost and schedule estimates for the introduction of new systems and modernization of existing systems
  • Coordinate the technical efforts of teams responsible for building and modernizing a high-profile public-facing application portfolio essential to the field operations of the Forest Service
  • Develop Solution architecture designs
  • Coordinate and lead agile design and development activities
  • Create conceptual and logical specifications through collaboration with business, enterprise, application, security, and infrastructure architects
  • Make recommendations on software, hardware, hosting services, and communications to support the product vision as well as provide for present and future cross-functional requirements and interfaces based on solution and program increment roadmaps
  • Collaborate with technical teams to develop artifacts for reuse by subsequent projects
  • Conduct application rationalization efforts for legacy applications and services using a defined framework and deliverables
  • Analyze and document requirements and functional specifications
  • Identify options to solve business problems and comparison of alternatives based on stakeholder criteria
  • Support the development of high-level cost and schedule estimates for the introduction of new systems and modernization of existing systems
  • Describe the structure, characteristics, behavior, and other aspects of systems to project stakeholders
  • Monitor the progress of systems engineering efforts and assistance with resolution of issues and mitigation of risks
  • Monitor the progress of agile application design, development, and testing efforts and assistance with resolution of issues and mitigation of risks
  • Identify options to solve business problems and comparison of alternatives based on stakeholder criteria
  • Create project artifacts, including user stories, communications material, reports, and knowledge articles that contribute to the success of the team

Prerequisites

The ideal candidate for the Application Architect position will possess the following:

  • 10+ years of application development experience across a range of technologies (hands-on coding)
  • 3+ years’ experience with large-scale modernization efforts involving enterprise applications
  • Certifications: AWS Solution Architect or equivalent
  • A thorough understanding of DevSecOps principles and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) of custom applications, Low Code Development Platforms (LCDPs), and Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to digest complex issues, assess various options, and create recommended paths for solutions and services
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multi-functional teams and businesses dealing with software and hardware products
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex topics with senior leaders in an organization
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical issues pertaining to enterprise scalability, economies of scale, and their impacts on total costs of ownership (TCO) in very large deployments.
  • Preferred – HUBZone residency (certified at https://maps.certify.sba.gov/)
  • Required – US Citizen or “green card” holder
