Project Overview
The Business Operations Software System – or BOSS – application manages a series of administrative and operational functions for the Forest Service’s Rocky Mountain Research Station, comprised of five modules: Planning & Analysis, HR, Employee Portal, Fleet Asset Management/Property Management, and Check-in/Check-out. Each module provides a web enabled interface to application logic.
Challenge
As part of the ongoing IT modernization efforts, the Forest Service’s Enterprise Application Development (EAD) Branch needed to modernize their application portfolios. A key driver of this change was the urgent need to move away from the use of Oracle Forms and Reports and Oracle middleware. This step was viewed as critical, both as a cost savings initiative and a means to mitigate existing security issues. What’s more, this modernization push was in part unchartered territory. The Cynerge Team needed to critically assess the project and troubleshoot broader issues en route to a proposed solution.
Solution
Using the Agile scrum process and DevOps methodology has allowed for flexibility and for changes to be easily absorbed into the project. Overcoming organizational obstacles, ensuring cost saving measures were taken when possible, and over-the-top security are just a few of the behind-the-scenes areas where our team excels and it makes all the difference.
Results
Our team is able to simplify the complex data models and database structures to make the user’s experience more enjoyable. The resulting application is fresh, intuitive, easy to use and scalable to future expansions.
